Hollywood vs. Bollywood

       Do you like movies？Do you want to know some differences in Hollywood movies and   Bollywood movies? Most popular movies of the world come from either Hollywood or Bollywood. Hollywood ，in America ，is the most famous place for movie production. Bollywood ，in India, is the largest place for movie production in the world. The difference between Hollywood movies and Bollywood movies can be distinguished from the aspect of music, clothing and makeup, and character.

First of all, music is the soul of the movie. The music of Hollywood movies depends on the type of movie and its plot. There is a great variety of music for movies. Mournful movies such as Titanic are usually coupled with sad music, like Celine Dion’s song <My heart will go on>. Sometimes, when the plot becomes intense, the music  accelerates rhythm as well. In contrast, the music in Bollywood movies are always played by traditional instruments, and most of them are native Indian melody. Most of time，when the music is sounding meanwhile the actor is dancing. The music always occupies much time in the movie.

Just like music, the clothing and makeup of actors plays an important role in the movie. To audiences, good clothing and makeup can bring them a strong visual impact. There are lots of varieties of clothing in Hollywood movies. In science fiction movies, clothing and special effects makeup are significant. These factors decide the visual effects truth. In Bollywood movies, however, clothing and makeup seem a little bit monotonous. It is just traditional dress and conventional makeup. The special effects make up is not significant.

Finally, another different point is the character. Most of the time, movie characters are among crucial components for a successful movie. The interesting part is that, while Hollywood movies create and shape characters besides real human beings such as fantasy characters in movies like Avatar and King Kong and cartoon characters in movies like Kung Fu Panda and Shrek, Bollywood movies, on the other hand, are concentrated on developing real human characters, especially those who reflect common people’s life and emotion. Devdas is a good example，it tells a sorrowful love story. The music and dancing accounted for half of the movie.

       All in all, through music, clothing, makeup and character, we can tell the differences from Hollywood and Bollywood movies. The differences are caused by different culture. Hollywood movies are affected by diverse cultures, while Bollywood movies are affected by only the Indian culture. In my opinion，Hollywood movies contain lots of various cultures. However Bollywood movies just reflect Indian traditional culture.
