I remember one of the most unforgettable days in my life. When I first
came from Saudi Arabia to the United States in October 2010, my brother was
waiting anxiously for me at the airport. When the plane just landed, the story
had just begun.
First. It took about half an hours to walk from the airplane to the
immigration line at the airport. It was very long line and I felt frustrated. I
just followed the instructions but I got confused because there were many signs
and directions there. However, thank God I had slept very well on the plane to
conserve my energy. I finally reached the immigration line and waited
patiently.
After I successfully passed the long line and finished the immigration
procedure, they sent me to the main office. I stayed there about three hours. I
felt bored until somebody called my name and told me “you are all set.”
Fortunately, I had done all the procedures and requirements. That was
fantastic. Then, I went out of the airport excitedly looking for my brother.
After that, I met him and we hugged each other, we were happy and smiled.
Then, we rode the airtrain to reach the parking lot and it was quite crowded. I
was really starving, but I was so excited and astonished because that was the
first time I saw the U.S.
When we reached the terminal parking lot, I held the luggage cart. The
door automatically opened and my brother exited first. When I was all set to go
out, one of the luggages stuck in the cart’s wheels. I tried to go out as
quickly as I could but unfortunately the door closed! I was trying to
communicate with my brother using gestures and facial expressions and telling
him “stay there! Do not move!” I really was nervous and feeling lost, and I did
not know what to do. I just watched my brother as the airtrain rode away and I
gaped. I thought we would lose each other forever!
While the door was closed, an old lady reassured me and told me not to
panic. The airtrain will go around in a circle, and you will come back to this
station again after a whole round. I was relieved after that. Finally, I
reached my destination and met my brother again. I felt happy and relaxed, we
were laughing that time till we got home.
That was my first experience in the U.S. but finally, I over come all of
these difficulties that I had faced on my journey. I learned that I have to get
some information and get an idea about the map of the airport that I am heading
to for first time. Especially nowadays every airport has a website for
convenience. That’s what I learned on that day.
be strong! you will be succeed in the US!
