My semester in New Paltz Winnie

Still remember the first time I came to New Paltz. That’s the worst day in my life and in that time, I didn’t know how to image the next days in New Paltz.

 First day, I came to New Paltz and my sister-in-law took me to the welcome party. I was late therefore I stood outside the lobby seeing people there all talked to each other. It is hard for me that I need to talk to someone actively so instead of entering the lobby, I went back to my room. My sister-in-law asked me “Are you ok? You should go to the party. ” ”I didn’t want to go.” I said. Because the fear in my heart, I couldn’t conquer it. I pretended I was fine and said good bye to my sister-in-law. After she left, the dark intrude my mind. I wondered “how could I live here”. Everyone seemed to have fun and peer here, only me was alone and I couldn’t use English to communicate with someone.

The next day, I met Peter who also came from Taiwan. We became friend quickly and he introduced his friends to me. After that day, I knew many friends came from different countries and wasn’t afraid anymore.

    I recall these days. It’s so incredible that compare to the first day here that feel hopeless , my friends and teachers were all nice to me. Although sometimes, I might meet some problems but I knew that I had the ability to solve them. I had a good time here. I experienced conversation partner, table, game club, speak out club, Mohonk Mountain, Washington D.C., Halloween parties, ESL trip, Thanksgiving days, New York City, and friends’ parties.

         Due to these impressive experiences, I really like my life here. Sometime I think should I go to study abroad earlier? If I go to the U.S. to study university, will I like here so much? My answer seem to say no because in Taiwan, I didn’t study hard and now I know the regret of not study hard. Now I cherish the time here and try to study hard. I am thankful for my teachers, friends and parents that make me feel happy.
